The Wormwood Star.

In the loftiness of distance

Between your bated breath and wisdom

I sought to navigate the circumference

Of a star which implodes under distaste of schism

I held your hand in my fingers

The light of your foil bandage glimmered

Like a flick of the wrist

Excites the malingerers

Like the promise of death

Provokes the nihilists

To lust and salivate for danger

You hand so sweet and supple

Not any softer from anger

I’ll fall with you

As much as you wish me to

Until a third of the earth falls too

Until our biomes become glue

I’ll sink with you

As much you want me to

Until the sun turns black

Then the moon turns blue

I’ll fall with you.

In the silence laughter breached between

The truth and what pastors speak

I sought to make of your bright smile

Something far less oblique

Something full of teeth

Something nice and complete

Like the Wormwood Star falling on

Manhattan Beach

Like an angel swinging a sword outside

A land we can no longer reach

I held your other hand in my scorched fingers

The smoke from the sortie still lingers

You’d have forgotten me by now

I’m sue your brain is sore

What with your torso on the roof and your mouth on the floor

Your hand so soft and supple

Won’t be warm much more
